Gift Giving through the Zodiac - Capricorn

This series of articles will feature ideas for zodiac inspired handmade gifts from members of the Trans-Canada Etsy Team. Each new zodiac month will begin with an introduction to the qualities associated with the present astrology sun sign. Throughout the rest of the month I will feature items which have those qualities and/or would be a suitable gift idea for people of that sign.

Capricorn - The Sea-Goat
22 December - 20 January
Archetypes - Father, Timekeeper, Judge, Elder

Capricorn is the10th sign of the zodiac and is an earth sign associated with the qualities of the planet Saturn. In the astrological chart (or wheel) of 12 houses it is the ruler of the 10th, the house of ambition, our career and social status in the world outside of our family. The symbol of Capricorn is a mythical creature with the head of a mountain goat and the body of a fish. The mountain goat is a surefooted climber using patience and determination to overcome obstacles and reach great heights. With the body and tail of a fish Capricorn is also equipped to swim the widest seas (symbolizing the unconscious).
Understanding Capricorn's role as "Timekeeper" is the key to appreciating the Capricorn nature. Time is always something we can count on and as reflected in the Capricorn nature it is dependable and sequential, providing limit, order and structure to our lives.

The highest expression of this sign is integrity - no lies and no deception, which makes the Capricorn person a dependable and solid member of our community. Capricorn people relate to the world through a need to establish order, discipline and purpose within their communities. To maintain this strong integrity the Sea-Goat must sometimes learn to live with and be nourished by solitude. Climbing those high mountain peaks can be a lonely and challenging place, requiring concentration and perseverance.

People with a strong presence of Capricorn in their charts: Sun in Capricorn, Moon in Capricorn, Capricorn rising or other prominent influence in their astrology chart can have the following qualities: dependable, self-reliant, practical, ambitious, careful, reserved, pessimistic, prudent, rigid, rational, disciplined, patient, passive, restrained, selfish, calculating, resourceful, cold, conservative, dutiful, punctual, critical, faithful, serious, conventional, responsible, methodical, confident, aspiring, persevering

Possible Vocational calling:
Capricorn people may often be found in positions of authority and responsibility as in government or as bankers, engineers, administrators or managers. The more earthy Capricorn may utilize their inherent qualities of resourcefulness and practicality and be drawn to farming, the building trades or even in manufacturing.

Gift Ideas:

"Mermaid Me" is a frosty white sea glass and sterling silver necklace made by Seaglassdesigns. This simple yet elegant necklace would make the perfect gift for a woman born under the sign of the Sea-Goat. The fish tail of the Capricorn goat represents the moon goddess, ruler of the waters, and often depicted as a mermaid in ancient Babylonia and Sumeria.
I love Seaglassdesign's description of sea glass: "Sea glass, also known as beach glass or mermaid's tears, is nature's answer to bottles, china and pottery carelessly thrown into the sea many years ago. The glass is tumbled on the ocean floor, smoothed by the waves and sand until it washes up on shore, waiting to be found by a lucky passerby." Time and patience - two qualities strongly associated with the Capricorn nature.

These black and silver vintage glass cufflinks have been handmade by Enthral. For the Capricorn man who wears a suit and likes to look elegant and stylish these would be a thoughtful gift. The silver plated cufflink bases are completely embedded into the piece which makes for an extremely durable product with a nicely finished back. Silver is a Capricorn metal and black is one of the colours associated with this sign.

This feature has been prepared for you by Morgen of Inkyspider Textile Designs and Kootsac re-usable bulk food bags.
